Voluntary Program

If you’re thinking of participating in volunteer work abroad, Outreach International is a small, specialist organisation that places committed volunteers in carefully selected, meaningful projects.

All the projects are regularly visited and assessed by the Director. Volunteering overseas means you can make a valuable contribution to the project while experiencing the pleasures of living and working with local people. Special effort is made to ensure that you have the chance to learn the local language, experience different aspects of the culture, and enjoy all that the Pacific coast of Mexico, the rainforests of Ecuador and Costa Rica or the traditions of Cambodia and Sri Lanka have to offer.  Please check the website of the Outreach International at www.outreachinternational.co.uk

Health Care Programs for Children – June 10, 2008
Rainy season has started but there has been no rain for almost three weeks.  This has caused many children in the rural areas to get sick.  On June 7, 2008 CCAF arranged for a local doctor to conduct physical check ups at the CCAF's village based pre-schools.  During the visit of the doctor, children were given some medicines and received advice from the doctor.

From Waste to Art - June 10, 2008
It is well known that plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose.  Nowadays, due to lack of motivation for people to recycle it or re-use it, the plastic is put in the landfill, thus the environment is getting worse. As part of our educational and art programs, the CCAF team has taught children to care about the environment and to motivate them to re-use plastic including plastic bags and plastic packs or boxes as much as they can. June 7, 2008 the CCAF team worked with students to collect waste plastic packs for an art project. The CCAF team believes that this is one of the best ways to begin to teach children to practice with recycling things like plastic.  This way our environment will be improved and our country will be cleaned.

Children International's Day - June 9, 2008
May 31, 2008, the CCAF team, in association with the local authority in Banteay Meas District, arranged for the students from CCAF's schools and from the rural villages to celebrate Children's International's Day.  The ceremony took place inside a pagoda compound, where no pre-school has been established.  This event was to promote awareness of the right of children to join educational programs, access to health care and to increase solidarity among children in the communities.  During the ceremony, children were given the opportunity to join together for free painting and drawing activities.  As a result, students were able to show their artwork to the communities and demonstrate that they are gaining skills by participating in the early childhood educational program.

CCAF's students travel by the truck and horse cart to join the ceremony.

CEO Channarith and a representative from mothers give a speech about rights of children.

Boy and girl have equal rights to participate in social activities.  These students play traditional Khmer music during the ceremony.

Children and Virtue – June 9, 2008
May 11, 2008, the management team and the teachers of CCAF, in collaboration with the committee of the Wat (pagoda) Koh Veang, organized students from CCAF's village based pre-schools to participate in the national Visak Bochea festival. This nationwide festival commemorates the day of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death. Generally, the ceremony is held during the sixth full moon of the lunar calendar and it involves chanting, sermons and a candlelit procession to the wat. CCAF wanted the children to learn from the monks about the meaning of the Visak Bochea and to understand about the value of virtue. Whilst attending the ceremony, children were taught how to show gratitude and respect to the monks and elderly. CCAF's part time job health educator also provided some advice to mothers and children on health matters.

Monks preach Children and all participants on virtue.
After ceremony, children enjoy eating lunch together.
